Jasmine Essential Oil (Botanical name: Jasminum grandiflorum)
Jasminum grandiflorum (also known as Spanish jasmine, Royal or Catalonian jasmine or jati) is the most common species used for essential oil extraction.

Jasmine essential oil is obtained by extracting jasmine flowers through chemical extraction or by labor-intensive methods of enfleurage. Jasmine odor is most powerful after dark, so the flowers are collected at night and laid out on cotton cloth soaked in olive oil for many days. This is then extracted leaving the unique jasmine essence. This oil has a high cost as a large number of jasmine flowers are needed to extract a small amount of jasmine oil. Some countries which produce the essential oil jasmine are China, Egypt, India and Morocco.

Properties of Jasmine Oil

It has deep brown color with a golden tinge, has a medium consistency and middle perfumery note.

It is warm, richly floral, unique and has a strong initial aroma.

Antidepressant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, sedative, mild analgesic, aphrodisiac, expectorant, uterine tonic.

Jasmine has a wonderful effect on the skin, regardless of type or age

Uplifts a person from apathy, listlessness, or indifference. Jasmine is very useful for warming the spirit and relaxing any blockages in energy which arises from people who suffer from extreme anxiety (also called as chilly mortals). The chilliness in these people is due to blocked energy.

Regular use of jasmine oil raises self confidence and instills a sense of wellness.

Jasmine is believed to stimulate creativity and original thinking. When used at bedtime, it is soothing and induces sleep, believed to bring forth beautiful dreams.

Aromatherapy Facial Massage Step by Step

Lubricate your index fingers with a small amount of your massage oil blend.

Slide both the index fingers across your forehead in opposite directions, starting from the center of your forehead.

Stroke the contours of your face beginning from the center outwards

Then, stroke your index fingers below your eyes, along the cheek bones covering your nose and your lips.

Move the top part of your fingers firmly along the chin and jaw. These are called ‘chopping movements’. Your fingers should be flat facing as though you are playing the piano or tapping your desk.

Use the back of your fingers for “flat tapping” under the jaw line.

This is a 30 second facial massage which is really simple massage to refresh and invigorate you. You can do it anywhere at home, at your workplace or just about anywhere if you are okay with people watching you.

Take care not to get the oils in your eyes or mouth. These oils could be risky and they don’t taste nice.

You can repeat this massage every hour. Just a few times everyday can work wonders to relax and freshen you up.

Aromatherapy Hand Massage Step by Step

Lubricate your index fingers with a small amount of your massage oil blend, just as you do for the facial massage.

Begin massaging from your wrist and move towards your fingers.

Slide over the contours of each hand in stroking movements.

Slowly and very gently stretch your fingers one at a time from your little fingers to your thumb. Follow this massage technique for both hands.

Rub your fingers from the knuckle towards the nail upwards.

Press lightly on your finger joints both at the front and the back.

Add a little pressure on your palm with the thumb in circular movements.

These massage techniques are particularly very useful for those who spends hours working on the computer; either at home or office.

Uses of Clary Sage

In aromatherapy, Clary Sage is preferred over Common Sage. Common Sage is potent and can be toxic even in small doses. Clary Sage is non toxic but should still be used in 1% dilution. High quantities of Clary Sage can cause euphoria and cause light-headedness. While on treatment, do not use Clary Sage before driving a car or consuming alcohol.

Clary Sage oil can be used for either sexes but considered a feminine oil as it helps regulate hormonal imbalance. Clary sage contains natural plant hormones that resemble estrogen. This oil is helpful for PMS i.e. premenstrual tension and benefits those with menopausal symptoms.

It can help lower high blood pressure.

It’s the best known oil for pre-conceptual care and postnatal blues due to its anti depressant qualities.

Not recommended during pregnancy or for baby care

It can be used as a compress during labor to help relieve pain.

Its aroma is sensual and relaxing; its anti depressant and euphoric actions help to dispel any tension that a couple may experience.

Clary Sage for Depression

Use the oil in a vaporizer, burner or add it to your bath.

Clary Sage for Irregular painful period
Mix Clary Sage oil with a carrier oil and massage this oil on your lower abdominal area and lower back for a couple of day before, during and after your menses.

Clary Sage for Skin Inflammation
Great for application on rashes caused by shaving and on inflamed skin.

Clary Sage for Sore Throat
