Grapeseed Oil
(Botanical name: Vitis vinifera)
Properties of Grapeseed Oil:
- The oil is heat extracted from the seeds of the fruit.
- Appearance is colorless or very pale green color
- The refined oil has a fine texture and is odorless. Hence, it is popular with aromatherapists who use bland base oils.
- Contains vitamins, minerals, proteins and is the highest in linoleic acid.
- Non-allergenic
Grapeseed Oil Uses:
- Good for all skin types
- Can be used 100% on its own without dilution.
Groundnut Oil
(Botanical name: Arachis hypogaea)
Properties of Groundnut Oil:
It is also known as peanut oil.
- Pale yellow in color
- Smells like nuts
- Thick oil with a sticky texture
- Contains proteins, vitamin B, niacin and minerals.
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Most groundnut oils are highly refined oils. It is possible to obtain an unrefined version containing appreciable levels of vitamin E.
Groundnut Oil Uses:
Make sure it’s organic
- Good for all skin types, especially dry skin.
- Use for bursitis, arthritis
- Has a soothing effect on over-heated skin and hence excellent for aftersun treatment i.e. application after sunbathing and sun tan treatment.
Hazelnut Oil
(Botanical name: Corylus avellana)
It is also known as cobnuts or filberts.
Properties of Hazelnut Oil:
- Hazelnut oil is obtained from warm pressed hazelnuts.
- It contains appreciable levels of essential fatty acids, including the important linolenic acid.
- This oil has a warm, sweet, nutty aroma and very fine texture.
- Has a slight astringent effect and absorbed well into the skin.
Hazelnut Oil Uses:
- Tightens and tones the skin due to its high penetrative and astringent quality.
- Excellent moisturizer and a good choice for base oil if it is to be mixed with another massage oil or used as a base oil blend.
