Home Remedies for Cholera
Cholera is a water-borne disease, which is highly infectious. Loss of electrolytes and fluid, in the form of vomiting and diarrhea are common. It is an intestinal problem, which affects the small intestine. It is more common in the monsoon period, due to poor sanitation and hygiene. Virus transmission through flies in the house is common.
Cholera Symptoms
Some of the common symptoms of cholera are nausea, dry skin, diarrhea, convulsions, cramps, extreme drowsiness, weak voice, loose stools, cold and clammy skin, poor urination, wrinkled skin on the fingers, feeling of thirst, high body temperature, low blood pressure, weak pulse and restlessness.
Cholera Causes
The various contributing factors for cholera are unhygienic raw fruits and veggies, contaminated feces, grains such as millet and rice, vegetables irrigated with sewage water, foods and beverages bought from street vendor, improperly cooked fish, contaminated water and ice cubes made from this contaminated water.
Cholera Treatment
Electrolyte and fluid imbalance, in the form of diarrhea is common. It is taken care with fluid replacement. Oral rehydration solution (ORS), which is a salt-sugar solution is administered. Intravenous fluid replacement is opted in case of severe fluid loss. Rehydration, in conjunction with antibiotics proves beneficial. It decreases the complexity of the condition.
Home Remedies for Cholera
Prevention is better than cure. Maintenance of good hygiene and a healthy lifestyle helps to prevent the same. Various home remedies to treat cholera are:
- Cholera Treatment with Buttermilk (Thin Yoghurt): Roast some cumin seeds and rock salt. Add them to a glass of buttermilk and drink.
- Cholera Treatment with Onions: Make a paste of 30 grams of onion with 10 black peppers. Take this twice a day.
- Cholera Treatment with Fruit juice: A glass of orange or lemon juice is highly effective, on a daily basis.
- Cholera Treatment with Basil leaves: A decoction of basil leaves is useful in the treatment of cholera. Strain and cool them, prior to drinking.
- Cholera Treatment with Cloves: Put four grams of cloves to a liter of water. Boil, till the water reduces to half. Drink this once every few hours.
TIPS FOR CHOLERA
Avoid improperly cooked fish and other aquatic animals. Wash your hands at frequent intervals. Peel the veggies and fruits, prior to consumption. Cholera virus is not destroyed by freezing. Hence avoid street foods from cold storage. Certain vaccines are available which improve the immunity of the individual. These are recommended to people who travel a lot. Dairy products have a high risk of contamination due to unpasteurized milk. Hot foods which are completely cooked are wise food choices.
