Home Remedies for Gingivitis
Gingivitis refers to the inflammation of the gums and is seen to affect the tissues around the gums and teeth. It affects the bones inside the gum and results in loss of teeth.
Gingivitis Causes
Many factors contribute to gingivitis. Some of the common causative factors are blood disorders, use of contraceptive pills, poor dental hygiene, diseases such as cancer, poor nutrition, viral and fungal infection, poor tooth alignment, ill fitting dental appliances, use of medications, vitamin deficiencies, heavy plaque deposits, vitamin deficiencies and habits such as smoking.
Gingivitis Symptoms
Typical symptoms of gingivitis include redness of the gums, painful gums, inflammation,. gum ulcers, bleeding gums, loss of gum color and structure, pus around teeth, bad taste in the mouth, bleeding while brushing, visible tartar deposits, pus around teeth and bad taste in the mouth.
Treatment for Gingivitis
Treatment techniques for gingivitis include brushing, complete dental cleaning, fixing of dental restorations, flossing and use of antiseptic mouth rinse. Scaling is a technique, which removes the tartar and plaque. Plaque removal is slightly difficult, in case of bridges, improperly fitted crowns and misaligned teeth.

- Gingivitis Treatment with Aloe vera: Cut a leaf of aloe. Apply the pulp in the mouth to get rid of gingivitis.
- Gingivitis Treatment with Herbal Toothpaste: Herbs, such as babul, basil, neem and mint in toothpastes prove beneficial in curbing infection. The herbs fight off gingivitis and decrease inflammation.
- Gingivitis Treatment with Clove oil: Topical application of clove oil on the gum is highly effective. You can also chew on a piece of clove.
- Gingivitis Treatment with Herbal Mouthwash: Use a mouthwash which contains herbs such as chamomile, sage oil, menthol and peppermint oil.
- Gingivitis Treatment with Cranberry Juice: Drink plain cranberry juice (devoid of sugar). This cranberry drink is useful for gingivitis.
- Gingivitis Treatment with Spices: Mix one eighth teaspoon of clove powder, a teaspoon of myrrh herbal powder, two teaspoon of white oak bark herbal powder and three fourth of a teaspoon of peppermint leaf powder.
- Gingivitis Treatment with Baking Soda: Pour a few drops of water over a teaspoon of baking soda. Brush the mouth by dipping your finger in the baking powder taste. It also helps to neutralize the acidity o the bacteria.
- Gingivitis Treatment with Hydrogen Peroxide: Prepare a mouthwash with equal proportion of water and three percent hydrogen peroxide. Rinse the mouth with the same. Do not swallow the solution.
Tips for Gingivitis
Practice good oral hygiene to prevent gingivitis. Brush your teeth twice a day. Gargle with water, after every meal. Teeth flossing should be done in a regular manner. This helps to eliminate loose microbes and food particles stuck between teeth and prevents plaque formation.
