Hay fever is a result of seasonal allergic reaction. Hay fever is also referred to as pollinosis or seasonal allergic rhinitis. Hayfever is more common in the two seasons of spring and fall.

Nasal corticosteroids are long term treatment techniques, which prevents inflammation. Certain over the counter nasal sprays are available, which decrease the histamine release. Decongestants relieve a stuffy nose, though continuous use worsens the condition. Desensitization therapy or immunotherapy is highly effective. This helps to desensitize certain substances, which result in an allergic reaction. Nasal lavage or rinsing the nose with salt water is also a common technique for betterment of the condition.

- Hay Fever Treatment with Petroleum Jelly: Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly in the inside of your nose. This provides relief from nasal irritation.
- Hay Fever Treatment with Chamomile: Boil some water and add some chamomile flowers to it. Inhale the fumes, from this boiling herbal decoction. This is a good hayfever herbal remedy.
- Hay Fever Treatment with Diet: A balanced and healthy diet for hayfever proves beneficial. Increase the intake of liquids, such as barley water, fresh fruit juices and herbal tea. Refined foods such as sugar, flour and other dairy products should be avoided as far as possible.

Do not use nasal sprays for long period of time. Avoid going outside, in the late evening or dawn, as the pollen contamination in the environment is high. Allergy proof covers are useful over mattresses. Avoid hanging clothes outside, as it results in the adherence of pollens.
